Sail Training Ship Leeuwin II has been based in Fremantle Port for over 30 years. Built to provide young people with adventure with purpose, the ship is operated by not-for-profit company, Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation Limited.
Offering dynamic, challenging and transformational adventures for young people, STS Leeuwin II is a unique community asset, sailing along the Western Australian coast between Monkey Mia and Busselton each year. Youth voyages bring out the best in young people, developing their courage and confidence, communication, teamwork and leadership ability.
It is a working ship. Voyage participants are involved in all parts of ship operations from climbing the rigging, setting sails, steering the ship, setting up for meals and washing-up! In a positive and supportive learning environment, voyage participants build new friendships and learn the value of goal achievement.
Leeuwin Ocean Adventure offers a range of other voyage programs, including the Weekend Leadership Program for students and the Parent Project – a three-day camping adventure at sea - for parents and teenage children. Overnight Dockside Camps for school and other groups, evening events and Leeuwin’s popular three-hour day sails almost complete the picture. Finally, an annual voyage for adult participants sails from Monkey Mia to Geraldton.
STS Leeuwin II is Australia’s largest sail-training tall ship and one of only a handful of tall ships from across Australia dedicated to the development of young people.
